The second release of MicroKat is finally here!
Based on balliboxer's GenNxt S3 Neo Port, MicroKat promises a rich
experience, with fluid performance and silky smooth everyday usage.
This time, you have two editions.
MicroKat RAW - the standard user interface of S4 and Note 3 TouchWiz.
MicroKat Note 4 - a little Note 4 bling without affecting performance.
Facts 'n' Figures (MicroKat RAW) :
385 MB ...................... download size (vs. 829 MB for GenNxt S3 Neo Port)
14.47 seconds ............... boot time* (vs. X seconds for GenNxt S3 Neo Port)
689 MB .................... installed size (vs. 1400 MB for GenNxt S3 Neo Port)
31 .......................... APKs in /system/app (vs. 133 for GenNxt S3 Neo Port)
19 .......................... APKs in /system/priv-app (vs. 91 for GenNxt S3 Neo Port)
589-627 MB / 1373 MB ........ used RAM when idle (vs. 900-1100 MB for GenNxt S3 Neo Port)
(*) "Boot time" is measured from the instant the initial boot screen
(the Samsung GALAXY GRAND 2 SM-G7102 one) disappears to the instant
the lockscreen shows + 2 seconds background app and service loading margin.
What's Kept and What's Removed (Microkat RAW):
Kept:
- Apps: Phone, Contacts, Messages, Settings, SIM Toolkit, and SuperSU.
- Widgets: Assistive Light, Contact/Direct Call/Direct Message, Dual SIM, and Messages.
- Extra features: Multi Window, S View cover, and Smart Stay.
Removed:
To make for the missing functionality, use Play Store alternatives.
For example, you can use Google Camera as a Camera alternative, and SpiritFM
instead of FM Radio.
That's the best part about this ROM. You use what you actually want.
- Gallery
- S Memo (and S Note, including subcomponents)
- Samsung Apps (and Blurb Checkout)
- Camera
- S Planner
- S Voice
- S Browser
- Voice Recorder
- My Files (who uses it, anyway?)
- Music Player
- Video Player
- FM Radio
- Dropbox
- Samsung Link
- All Google services (yeah, even Play Store. HA HA HA! Evil, right?)
- Service Codes (no *#06# and no *#0*#, please check if this is legal in
your country before use. You can still see the IMEI from Settings -> About Device -> Status
- AccuWeather widget
- Clock app and widget
- Easy Mode stuff
- Stock Wallpaper and Live Wallpaper Pickers
- Software Update
- Adapt Sound
- Sensor Testing (which was invoked using service code *#0*#)
- Kies over Wi-Fi
- MusicFX
- Gear smartwatch support (if you can buy a Gear, then you can also buy a high-end Note. Why waste time here?)
- Task Manager (the cut-up-pie icon that usually sat next to the Clear All button in the Recents panel. Useless memory hog.)
- Wireless printing
- Help and online User Manuals shortcut (if you're here, then you know how to use an Android device. No need to show you where the Menu button is.)
- All variants of text to speech.
- Enterprise stuff (remains of KNOX, smartcard support, and VPN stuff)
- I'm sure I did not list everything.
