[Q] Signing as a system app - failed to install - CyanogenMod topic

Hi!

I'm preparing a plugin for a vendor of ROM (a small phone manufacturer) and I need this plugin to have system permission. I've tested this on a rooted Cyanogenmod install by putting the app into /system/priv-app directory and it works.

Taking this a step further, I signed the application with Cyanogenmod platform keys from the source repository (platform.pk8 and platform.x509.pem). I've successfully verified that the key used to sign release build is indeed the one from platform.x509.pem.

When I try to install this application via "adb install" I get the following error: Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INVALID_INSTALL_LOCATION]

Investigating further, it seems that installation of applications signed with platform key is not allowed (anymore): http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1...-to-user-space
Looking in the source of PackageManagerService.java in the current Android source[1], I don't see this restriction, but I doo see it in CyanogenMod source tree[2] with this commit[3].

The question is: is this the correct approach for non-CM ROMs? What is the preferred way to work around this for CM (apart from building a custom ROM and removing this piece of code, that is)?

Regards,
Miha.

Fake system phone number? topic

With xprivacy it's possible to spoof your number, got i miss it, but since we don't have that, has anyone figured out how to do this on lollipop yet?

My problem is that I use my google voice number for everything, but some apps insist on using the number reported by the system/sim, looking for a workaround.

Have root set up already, just can't find anything that can spoof the telephone manager API... Any pointers?

[Q] Android System Hog? topic

Hi

Thanks

[Q] HELP! Wiped system files now can't boot up the phone (says no OS installed) topic

Sorry but I'm a total rookie here. I first started screwing around with my stock Nexus 6 by rooting. Then somehow I ended up with TWRP installed (or whatever) on my phone. Today I received notification that 5.0.1 OTA was available and when I click install it just went into TWRP and wouldn't let me install the update. For some reason I messed with TWRP and erased everything. Now I'm stuck with a brick.

Oh an to boot I can't get Android SDK running on my computer because of JVM or something.

Can anyone help? I just want to go back to out of the box stock and start over if that's possible. No TWRP or rooting necessary for me after this episode.

Thanks so much in advance for the assistance (please use small words and short sentences). Yes, I've tried searching like crazy and can't find anything that just step by step instructs me how to get back to stock.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 Error System Has been modified in an unauthorized way topic

So I rooted my device with Towelroot. I checked that it was rooted and I used my device for sometime and then I thought I really didnt need root so I unrooted my device through superuser. I used an app called root checker and it said that my device didnt have root permissions. So now I need OTA updates and it says that my device had been modified in an authorized way? Did I unroot it properly or is there another way to fix this or unroot my device. I am looking forward to your replies.
Thanks!

[Q] Can't uninstall system apps? topic

Hey guys I'm on 4.4.4 latest firmware. I rooted my phone, and running on stock ROM with Xposed.

When I used Titanium Backup to uninstall useless system apps (Skype, Play Music, Play Newstand, Play Books, Play Movies, Google Chrome, Hangouts, Google Korean input), the phone will reboot, and then suddenly Play Store will "update" all of them, as if I never removed them!

Why is this happening? It's my first HTC Phone - my previous phones have 0 problems removing system apps!!

[Q] Flashing stock Android 5.0.2 image to Nexus 7 [2012], stuck at 'writing system' topic

So my Nexus 7 (2012, wifi only, 32 GB, Android 4.4.4, not rooted) is just over a year old, and I have had absolutely no problems with it until one fine day its battery was completely drained and even after charging it for over 3 hours, it refused to boot up. It was stuck at the 4 colored balls animation. I checked the bootloader and it said something like

Code:

unable to mount /cache (invalid <something>)

.
So I decided that since I will anyway have to do a complete wipe of the data on tablet, why not install Android 5.0.2 by getting the image from Google? But much to my chagrin, the command prompt has been stuck on

Code:

writing 'system' . . .

for almost an hour now. --Shouldn't the whole process be complete in 10 minutes tops?
Another thing is that adb does not detect my device, but fastboot does.
Also, the command,

Code:

fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-grouper-4.23.img

throws an error:

Code:

writing bootloader . . .
FAILED (remote: (InvalidState))

What could be the error? Is it an H/W issue? Or am I simply doing something wrong?
The commands I gave are:

Code:

fastboot oem unlock
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-grouper-4.23.img
fastboot -w update image-nakasi-lrx22g.zip

Nexus 4 Problem: Wont boot into system or recovery, but fastboot and able to flash?!! topic

Very weird behaviour:

1. Phone does not boot up at all - neither system nor recovery (tried 5.1 and 4.4.4 factory images and 2.8.3.0 TWRP as recovery).
2. Can start in fastboot mode and flash factory image but after flashing modem the device is "stuck" in QHSUSB_DLOAD mode.. when I restart into fastboot it continues to flash and finishes the flashing process apparently.
3. When the device is off and plugged in its recognized as "unkown device" or QHSUSB_DLOAD again - no signs of charging at all.

Phone got to me in "bricked" state - would not boot and was only showing red light when plugging in - after loading it for a while (it showed the battery with a lighning inside on screen during charge attempt, but no percentages at all) i flashed latest factory image but that did not help it seems.. =(

Tried "fastboot erase cache" as well...

Any ideas?

[Q] Discussion about LG G3 android system topic

Hi to all of you. I recently did buy a LG G3 with KitKat 4.4.2. Phone is awesome, battery lasts a lot for this screen over a day and a half (medium usage), without lagginess, maybe after restart it takes about 1 second to find everything but generally i am very happy with my purchcase. I have some questions though. Recently i got a OTA update about sth vcalled 20e. Its an update ~555mb and after some search i found out that this is the Lollipop official firmware. After plugging my phone into the LG PC Suite, i found out that even a newer version is available the 20f firmware ~over 1gb. Here starts my questions. Is it worth to go from kitkat to jellybean? Or is it better to stick with kitkat until they fix all the bugs i found out on forums. (So far i saw battery doesnt last so long, wireless charging has problems, lte doesnt work on most devices, others said about lagginess, most apps do not work with the new ART system). So what are your thoughts about this? Also i want to remove some google apps like google drive, and i want to remove this McAfee. Is there any possible way to do that easily without ruining my phone?

[Q] Writing system FAILED but flash successful ? topic

Hello, i just flashed Lollipop 5.0.1 with the factory image method.

When running flash-all.bat everything worked fine but the last step, " Writing System " (Just after " Sending System " ) failed.

So i exit .cmd, unplug the Nexus 5, force reboot it.. And it boots just normally to Lollipop. So the flash is successful.. Even with " Writing system " failed ?

Is it ok like that now or should i do it all over again ? (The Nexus is running lollipop fine now but idk if it could have corrupted some things)

XT1033 converted to 4.4.4GPE , empty system and more! topic

XT1033 india model. Phone was first running stock 4.4.4.
1)Flashed 4.4.4 GPE, phone booted perfectly, everything works.
2)Flashed Validus ROM (5.0 ROM + DK kernel)

Wanted to revert to 4.4 GPE, so i ran the bat file. phone booted and works. Got the lollipop update , downlaoded phone stuck at Google Logo.
Turned off phone. Flashed GPE rom.
Stuck at boot logo. Recovery shows no sdcard or system. Both are at 0mb.

Help?

EDIT:

will attempt this now

Alternative procedures:

1 - Going directly from 5.0.1 GPE to 4.4.4 Moto (suggested per @felipeap )
- In bootloader mode, flash gpt.bin file from 5.0.1 Moto. (It can be found in the OTA 5.0.1 Moto zip file)
- Then, flash 4.4.4 Moto (through bootloader mode)
Post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...4&postcount=19

I beleive the partitions are changed in 5.0. So i'll flash the 5.0 gpt bin file. And then flash a STOCK 4.4.4

EDIT 2 :
Managed to get the Data Cache and system to show their size. Unable to mount system in twrp to flasha rom
