Data Services not working properly. topic

Hello,
I don't know if anyone else is facing this problem or not but i've spotted this issue in my Mi3. Neither 3G nor 2G works properly on my MI3. In 3G the network keeps shuffling between H and H+. When the indicator turns H+, i can surf the internet and when it turns H, i can't. I tried the same sim in my Xperia ZL and 3G worked like a charm. No disconnection at all.
Tried using 2G and facing the same issue. It'll work fine for say a minute or 2, and then the indicator shows the up arrow (data sending) and there is no down arrow( data receiving).
If anyone has any suggestions please do share.
Thanks in advance.

Google Play Services, Location active - battery eater LG G3 topic

Hi,
I've disabled my Location and Google Play Services battery consumption reduced.
I've noticed that every time when I unlocked the phone, the system tries to access GPS - I can see for 1 second the the location symbol appears in the notification toolbar.

Previously I owned a G2 and didn't have the issue. When you unlock the screen the phone doesn't try to start GPS, the location symbol doesn't apper in the notification toolbar.

I don't know if is a Lollipop issue or a bug in LG G3 software.
It is stupid and drains battery fast.

I want to keep the Location active because of geotagging photo information or for using googlemasps. But it is annoying to start manually the location when using this.
I hope there is a workaround to this issue.
Tks

I'm using

[Q] Google Play Services is malfunctioning w / Elegancia ROM topic

Hi Everyone,

I have had the Elegancia ROM installed onto a HTC Velocity (Telstra) phone for about six months. Most features of the phone have been working smoothly, however recently there have been issues with the 'Google Play Services' (as shown below - unfortunately some of the message is cut off).

I 'successfully' updated the Google Play Service through the Play Store; here I have put successfully in inverted commas as whilst the install from the Play Store went fine, it ultimately had no affect and the error message kept appearing.

After trying to fix this through the Play Store I followed the steps below -

1). Went into Settings > Apps
2). Found the Google Play Service App
3). Cleared the cache for this App
4) Uninstalled the App
5). Rebooted
6). Downloaded the newest version of the APK from APK Mirror
7). Installed the downloaded APK
8). Rebooted the phone

Not only did the above procedure not improve the situation, but now when I click on error messages related to the Google Play Service I am ultimately presented with the message below -

If you have seen this issue before and know how to fix it can you please share with me? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

[Q] play services keeping phone awake draining batteries topic

My phone has always been awake when screen turned off and I think the play service is causing the problem. As shown in the pics I used the app ops to disable the play services permission to keep phone awake however it doesnt seem to work. Now my battery is being drained super fast even though I have my screen turned off most of the time. Anybody can help me identify the real reason why the battery is being drained so fast and why play services are still able to keep phone awake even though its permission to do so has been disabled? Thanks.

mediaserver, google play services and battery drain topic

hey everyone. I noticed recently that my battery life on my m7 was really poor. The battery was draining at 6-8% per hour idling in my pocket, so I decided to see what was up. I noticed my cpu usage never went below 80%. I checked my app usage, but nothing specific was showing under battery usage in settings, so I did some googling. I downloaded a bunch of apps including Gsam and better battery life and saw mediaserver was thrashing the cpu nonstop, as well as logcat, and google play services was constantly waking the device.

I tried all sorts of things from the common reboot to adb commands. Finally, I found something that at least partially worked.

I downloaded an app from the play store called system tuner, which let me kill mediaserver, and instantly my cpu usage went from 80% to 7%. logcat also stopped when I stopped mediaserver. I have noticed no side effects from doing this. I hope this can help someone out there.

Now I just need to figure out 2 things:
1) prevent play services from wakelocking (up to 46 times per hour, wow!)
2) automate killing mediaserver on startup, as I noticed the issue returns everytime I reboot the device.

If someone out there can help me, it would be appreciated, and if I find out on my own, I will share this info here for all the people with the same problem.

"Google Play services has stopped" messages topic

I've been getting random "Google Play services has stopped" messages for the last couple of days. Anyone else getting this message? I read that uninstalling updates but that option is greyed out and not available. I tried clearing cache but that doesn't help. Phone is rooted, running stock kernel. Thanks.

[Q] Best way to use threads in services topic

I'm new to Android development and haven't used threads in Java before. I have a foreground Service, and I want to perform network operations periodically. I know that I have to do this on another thread, but what is the best way to start one? I've found many ways to do it but I am not sure of which to use: should I use AsyncTask, IntentService, Threads and Handlers, or just a Thread and a Runnable?
