[Q] Mobile Internet Super Slow on HAM2 topic

Hello,
I mostly use my phone on Wifi but occasionally switch to mobile data. We don't have 4G where I live. The three types of networks available are GPRS (2G), EDGE (2.5G) and HSP (3.5G). Using my previous phone on Mobile Data, I always see the symbol "H" indicating that I on a 3G network. Here are some observations:
1. Since I started using the HAM2 I always see "4G" instead of "H" even though I'm sure it can't be 4G. I can use the internet but its ridiculously slow.
2. Sometimes, when I'm some far away place, I see "E" indicating that I'm using EDGE which means that the "4G" I usually see does not erroneously represent EDGE.
3. I thought the general network in my area was slow. I tried someone else's SAMSUNG phone. The usual "H" was there and the speed was as is expected of a 3.5G network

So, whats wrong with my phone's internet speed. I've verified that I'm using the same access point as everyone else. But internet is just too slow. Usually in SAMSUNG phones, there's an option where you are allowed to switch from 3G to 2G data networks to save some battery but the HAM2 lacks this option. Instead, when defining the access point, there's an option at the bottom called "Bearer" where there are three options; "LTE", "eHRPD" and "Unspecified". Switching to anything other than "Unspecified" does not work.
Is there something that is causing the internet to be slow on my phone or the HAM2 doesn't support 3G data ?

Thanks

Super App + Web App Will Dominate Future Mobile Internet topic

Since W3C released HTML4 in 1999, people assumed that it would not need to upgrade any more. Some companies who focused on web apps migrated to WHATWG. After that in 2007, W3C got back related works from WHATWG so that HTML5 can be re-developed.

Because of the huge demand of new technology development and HTML5 has already proved its commercial interests, a totally new entrance will be opened to mobile internet. As a result, web apps which supported by super app + HTML5 will subvert traditional native apps and dominate future mobile internet.

Traditional browser + HTML5

While HTML5 is upgrading, Google and Apple also see the bright future of HTML5. As a result, Google at first developed Firefox by sponsoring Mozilla, then V8 engine and Webkit were emerged. Chrome was released the first version in 2008. Meanwhile, Apple also developed Safari. IE+flash had to take a back seat.

HTML5_markup

HTML5 is the only one language which can cover PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android and windows phone. Though Java and Flash have ever dreamed of that, they are excluded by ios. The aim of mobile web app is to get the same user experience as native apps.

Before HTML5 standard released, most of browsers already support it. Even web app is try to take place of native app. Due to the low response speed, sometimes it is ignored by developers.

Web app is rising along with HTML5

HTML5 have ever been abandoned by Facebook. Because some functions like Push can be expressed as good as its native app, let alone page switching, refreshing… But for native app, it is easy to realize the “Shake”, QR code scanning, voice input and other functions. Thanks to the final HTML5 standard is released in Oct 2014, it portended that a new era is coming.

For Google, from Android 5.0, Webview could be updated in real time via Google Play Store, which is consistent with the update of Chrome. For Apple, it breaked the limitation of 3rd party Nitro calling. So it is possible to run complex computations through any browsers in IOS now. In a word, these two leaders in mobile operation system have changed their attitude to HTML5. which probably have a profound impact on mobile commerce.

New era of super app + Web app is on the horizon

For hardware, it will not be the determinant factor with the iPhone 6 released in terms of the high demanding of HTML5. In the end of 2013, Android 4.4 changed its Android Webkit to Chromium and Apple also unlock the Nitro limitation. That means the development of HTML5 will not be limited by mainstream mobile systems.

web-application-development

Some mobile developers are unwilling to develop WP version. One hand, it needs too much works for example responsive design and version adapted. One the other hand, they have to wait at least 2 weeks on examination. HTML5 is currently playing a savior for them and many small to medium enterprises already set up their web apps that based on HTML5.

In addition, web app is easier to drive traffic that native app. The entrance could be super apps(Wechat e.g.), search engine, app markets and browsers. But for native apps, the entrance almost only rely on app markets.

In conclusion, many browsers are keen on web apps. Although native apps still dominate the mobile market now, super app + web app will dominate future mobile internet over the long term.

[TRICK] How To Make The Lockscreen Transparent *super easy* topic

locate (or create) the following file and disable the read permissions
/data/data/com.cooliris.media/files/zzzzzz_lockscreen_wallpaper.jpg

(to locate/create and edit the above file permissions use a file manager app able to navigate the /data folder.
NOTE: Manual edit of files in /data/folder require root permissions so the Andriod system must be rooted first
NOTE2: This trick works on Samsung Galaxy Y stock ROM, on which the system looks for the file zzzzzz_lockscreen_wallpaper.jpg located in /data/data/com.cooliris.media/files to be used as lockscreen wallpaper. Other ROMs might look for different filename and/or different location.)
That's it! :D

As side note I want to add that my first read about this topic was, about two weeks ago, a thread started by XDA member recognized contributor marcussmith2626 more than one year ago (How To Make The Lockscreen Transparent) which explains a more sophisticated way to get the lockscreen transparent and that might work on a variety of ROM and devices.
Then I accidentally discovered the above trick by my own (I forgot to set the permissions after replacing the jpg file) and I decided to share it here even though I don't know if anyone had posted the same trick before as comment at the marcussmith2626 thread or anywhere else in XDA or the Internet virtual space ;)
