Development for Z2 tablet topic

I have created this thread to prevent spamming the Android Development forum.

Starting point: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...0&postcount=93

- AOSP for LTE (WIFI will follow according to the guys from FreeXPERIA)

So nothing is "dead".

The Z2 tablet is not a best seller, it is a high-end Android tablet with a very limited user base. Of course devices which have sold an order of magnitude more like the Samsung Galaxy S5 or the HTC One M8 attract more developers, but then look at the forums for the Galaxy S5 Mini, where there is hardly any development at all. Compared to such devices we do very well here.

I personally am glad that we have good developers supporting our tablet and a range of custom ROMs to choose from and I am thankful for the ROMs we have and for the work the developers spend in their free time.

Finally, this is XDA here - if you think there are too few ROMs here feel free to make your own one instead of alienating the developers we have by complaining about their work.

Hi,

Waoh !

OK, sorry... I take it all back.
Did not thought my post would suggest such vehement reaction.

In fact, what did I wrote ?
Simply that on the whole channel dedicated to "Z2 Tablet Android development" there has not been a single post in over 3 weeks...
Which makes me fear that development is not really alive for a device I really like.

Does it deserve such reaction ?
Maybe. But I beg to differ...

I am not whining, I am not complaining... I was just stating.
That makes a difference to me. Maybe not to you...

Regards.

See, CM12 and Lollipop AOSP were updated just 2 days ago, on 2015-01-10. PAC was updated today, before it was updated on 2015-01-05. Yesterday, a new pre-rooted stock ROM for the SGP521 was posted.

Yet you ask if development is dead.

In my opinion, this is insulting the developers who do the work for us - for free, mind you!

I do not want to start a flame war or a non-technology-related discussion here. I merely want to point out that I do not share your view and that I am thankful for the ROMs we have.

Also I want to point out that I appreciate the work the developers do - we already have 'lost' a developer here in this forum who was alienated by some comments from certain members, and I think this shouldn't be repeated.

Hence I felt that I have to reply to your post to make the developers know that there are members on this board who do not share your view. Usually I simply ignore such posts to prevent spamming the forums, but I think your repeated complaints (no Apps2SD, no 4.4 AOSP, no new developments) warrant a reply.

Development Modifications for 3D(V) topic

I want to share a couple projects found in the developers section. When I first started experimenting with scripts and other 'android enhancers', I'd flash them blindly- because I didn't know any better. I've experienced graphical glitches galore, cpu running full throttle all the time, and boot loops. Though luckily no bricks.

More often than not, development projects need to be tuned for a particular device. And that's what's been done here.
The first is operation killjoy, the folks there don't want it to be put into Roms. And they also want a link to the thread, here it is- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2411161

They don't want it being used with other mods, and it'll delete such things as Crossbreeder and Seeder, and it'll backup all init.d scripts and use its own, and will also delete sysctl.conf. That's overkill(so this won't delete your init.d). It features dnsmasq and an entropy engine. This is our okj- https://db.tt/aFSWMw65

And the other one is Crossbreeder, it can be put into Roms. I highly suggest using it, the Crossbreeder app can be got here- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2113150

Again, for our device- https://db.tt/ZYRciXIl

These shouldn't be used together.

Getting into app development topic

Hey guys,

I want to get into the Android app development game - can you recommend me a beginner's guide? I'd prefer it if it would be a newer one (or an updated one) that already includes the changes that were made in Android 5.0. And it would be nice if the guide would cover using Android Studio.

Unfortunately I've only got very basic Java skills.

Thank you,
Xerionius

Android Development Forum For LG L70? topic

It's so frustrating that XDA doesn't have an official forum for the LG L70. It should show up as a searchable device. It's such a great phone and I think it's pretty popular, since it's so cheap and performs so well. Maybe if we all thumbs up this post, then we can get it done. Reply with any feelings you may have about this below too.

[KK][STOCK]Kernel Development topic

I'm currently looking for people that have some knowledge on developing kernels for the G2. At least the basic stuff like compiling them from source, handling toolchains and working with github. I know a bit of everything but still have a lot to learn and would like to share ideas and hopefully come up with a project between a couple fellas.

Anyone interested feel free to contact me via PMs or on this thread. TIA to anyone who cooperates ;)

If there's a group already doing this I'd be glad to join too.

Xposed for Lollipop: Supporting Development topic

All,

I'm not sure how many feel about the Xposed project, but given that at least a couple of projects that I have invested in (via "donations") depend upon the Xposed infrastructure--namely "XPrivacy"--one might say that I have a vested interest in seeing this project evolve. Perhaps others share similar feelings, especially as many of us upgrade to 5.0, compliments of DomPop and ahead of T-Mobile's official release.

In light of the creator's recent comments (found here: http://www.androidauthority.com/xpos...llipop-540928/), I'd like to begin a conversation centered on a focused support initiative that will (hopefully) raise the spirits of the developer community to extend upon their work and bring the Xposed platform/functionality to the next generation of Android.

In brief, I'm not certain how we might organize a support base, but I'm hoping to begin a conversation that will catch the attention of folks, who, more capable than me, can reach a wider audience.

What do you think?

Thx,
R

Q. How to post in development section? topic

[DEV] AOSP-Based ROM Development Thread topic

Since joshuabg posted his build of AICP, countless other people decided they would continue his mission of bringing AOSP-based custom roms to this wonderful device
however in doing this people started stealing the AICP thread to talk about compile problems(i know im the biggest offender) so im fixing that.

Post all ROM development talk below so we can attempt to help each other and get the rom problems out of the way and finally get development for this amazing, game-changing, sexy slice android off the ground :D

god i hope this thread isnt a total bust...

Is development for non-MDK dead? topic

It seems that everything has pretty much gone dark in the development section (exception of HyperDrive).
Does anyone know of any other ports or ROMs for Safestrap users that are still being released or updated? What happened to kexec?

I like my s4 and with a few exceptions want to stay with it for a little while longer. At this point I've been on stock rooted for almost a year and my stability is suffering for some reason. I want to jump to a ROM but it's looking like there is a lot less support and new stuff comming out.

[Q] New to app development what next? topic

Hi All,
What OS and IDE and language would you recommend for me to create my first app in android?

I have been depending on an Microsoft excel sheet to do calculations for my wood working business but would like to create an android app for this that I can use at customer site.
My background is a BA in CS and finished with C++ right before Java became popular. I have not done any development since 1999 and that was in C on Linux.

I still love development but my career took me into Quality Assurance testing. Now I'm my own boss and starting my own business in woodworking which is my other passion.

So before I start investing time like I did in ASP.Net to create my site and then realized other languages are better to make my site look modern I don't want to do that mistake creating an app not choosing the correct(popular, or latest) OS, IDE or programming language.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

[Q] Novice Question regarding Android OS updates and Rom Development topic

Ok I am not sure how to ask this question so I will explain exactly what I want to do and why I'd like to do it if possible. I have an iReadyGo Much G2 android phone and it is running Android 4.2 but I really want an Android Wear watch which requires 4.3. I don't expect this phone to receive an update anytime soon so I want to know if it would be possible to develop a ROM to bring this phone up to speed and put Android 4.3 on it.

[Q] HTC desire 816 stuck on development purposes message after flashing recovery topic

I was part way through attempt to cynogenmod my HTC desire 816. Using the guide on the cynogenmod wiki (can't post links yet because i'm new).
I had just finished flashing the recovery using fastboot and powered down the device, once the phone was off the charging screen came on with "the is build is for development purposes only...." message but I am STUCK here. I can't power up the device or power into recovery mode (held power + volume down for like 3 minutes).

[REQ] Development Environment Setup for Moto G 2014 topic

Hey there,

INTRO:

I'm a relatively new member to XDA and the Android Community as well. The Moto G (2014) is my first Android phone since ever. I was using iPhones (4,4S,5,5S), iPads and Mac and have Jailbroken and Developed Tweaks, Apps etc for iOS.

Now that I got my hands on this amazing device, I would love to contribute to the Community by developing and porting ROMs for the Moto G 2014.

WHAT? WHY?:

So if it isnt too much trouble could someone post a device-specific instructions, checklist and downloads to setup a development environment for Moto G (2014). I'm a pretty fast learner so any crude form of instructions would suffice. With the right heading and instructions I'm sure that I can contribute to this community.

PAST CONTRIBUTIONS:

If you're curious about what I've preciously done, just Google "Krishna Sagar iPhone" and you'll see. I've developed apps, Jailbreak tweaks and I've even been mentioned and credited by CNET.com for discovering the first solid evidence about 4G in the iPhone 5. (Before it was announced or released. Yea!! :D)

So any help at all is appreciated!

Regards
Krishna Sagar
http://www.krishna.bz

PS: I've searched XDA and found some tutorials but I'm looking for some device specific instructions and downloads such as Device Tree, Kernal, ROM sources etc.. and crude up-to-date instructions on how to setup a Build-Environment. Thanks :)

[Q] No more development for Fassy!? topic

The reason why I say this cause I've ran every 4.4.2 ROM & none of them are a daily driver they have bugs from ROMS on here & some on G+ ranging from DU BAM CM11 PA I would enjoy if we got 4.4.4 ROM or even an L ROM

in one kit kat ROM tweetcaster pro kept force closing when I would use it

the most stable ROM is DU 4.3.1
