[Q] Lacking options to root an LG-P990h (LG Optimus 2X) topic

I've spent many hours looking for a solution on how to unlock bootloader and root my LG Optimus 2X, including this forum. This model is not listed in the How to Root link (http://www.xda-developers.com/root/) and I remember finding only two options when I searched for each a month ago - both Windows only, one of which widely reported later to have a virus.

I don't have a Windows install. Is there a more trustworthy way to root this phone, especially if something I could run on Linux?
